President Bush was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation last weekend in Arizona. He spoke for almost an hour on his future plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living. He referred to his career as Governor of Texas, how he had signed "YES" 1,237 times - for every Indian issue that came to his desk for approval.

Although the President was vague on the details of his plan, he seemed most enthusiastic about his future ideas for helping his "red brothers".

At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented the President with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name - Walking Eagle. The proud President then departed in his motorcade, waving to the crowds.

A news reporter later inquired to the group of chiefs of how they come to select the new name given to the President.

They explained that Walking Eagle is the name given to a bird so full of shit it can no longer fly.

MMMMMMMMM, got be true. Sounds like him. No child left behind, that was full of shit. what is it do they think we won't check them out. He left tons of kids behind. Him and Rowe. YOu remember Karl Rowe I typed it and you read it about a week ago. Yeah, Karl Rowe, the shit on the other end of the strings from Bush.

And the rest of the 30 mins. was on John Perkins who says he was for many years an "economic hit man" in the world of international finance people. And guess what, he has writen a book so if you missed the show and you want to read a book, "CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN" and it is on THE NEW YORK TIMES best seller list. Yeah, John Perkins was recruited by the National Security Agency during his last year at Boston University's School of Business Administration, 1968. Oh! Hell, click here and see for yourself.

In other words, when it well be meaning less history to the people of that time or even if anyone has the right to ask by that time. Read another book writen years ago, Big Brother or as it's title says, 1984. Which before 1963, Kennedy shooting, was read by everyone in High School. You remember "High School" that's the place where you were allowed to not learn but had to go there anyway. Go back a couple of enteries and find where I talked of that too.

House Committee Downplays Health Risks of Mercury

In an astonishing but lightly reported development two weeks ago, the Republican staff of the House Resources Committee released a report asserting that the dangers of toxic mercury pollution have been greatly exaggerated.

Said Committee Chair Richard Pombo (R-CA), "It is clear that some special interest groups [read: environmental and public health organizations] are crying wolf."

Among the groups apparently crying wolf are the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)--all of whom have published science-based studies citing the danger of mercury exposure either through consumption of certain fish, or pollution generated by coal-fired power plants.

Especially at risk are pregnant women, women of child-bearing age, and young children.

The Clinton Administration proposed an aggressive reduction of mercury emissions from coal-fired plants, reducing emissions by as much as 90 percent starting in 2008. The plan would require the installation of the best available pollution control technology.

In contrast, the Bush EPA has proposed a cap-and-trade program requiring smaller and slower reductions. It would reduce emissions by 70 percent starting in 2018.

Under a court agreement with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), EPA is to issue its new rule by March 15. Noting that the House committee report was written by Republican staffers rather than scientists, John Walke, NRDC's director of clean air, calls the report "a preemptive strike" with "wildly off-base claims about mercury just to make EPA's abominable rule look good by comparison."

Walke notes that the House report repeatedly references industry-funded groups such as the Edison Electric Institute and the Electric Power Research Institute.

"The owners of coal-fired plants don't want to reduce mercury emissions. They actually want to increase the size of their plants" said Steven Gilbert, author of "A Small Dose of Toxicology."

Environmentalists dismiss industry claims that installing the newest and best pollution controls would be too costly. They assert that the economic benefits of curbing emissions would greatly outweigh those expenditures, via reduced medical costs for those affected by exposure, higher demand for fish once they are deemed safe again, and revitalized tourism at fishing destinations.

Indeed, recent technological advances in response to newly implemented state regulations have already reduced the cost of these improvements. The FDA, and at least 45 state agencies, have released health advisories warning of dangerous mercury contamination in certain species of fish.

Big Flash Contest to Stop the Republican Social Security Scam: Bush in 30 Years

"He who is willing to sacrifice freedom for safety deserves neither freedom nor safety." - Ben Franklin
"One useless man is called a disgrace; two useless men are called a law firm; and three or more useless men are a congress" - John Adams
Politicians and diapers should both be changed regularly and for the same reasons.
"Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it."--Mark Twain

The Republicans are running a $100 million public relations blitz to convince Americans to privatize Social Security. Today, we're launching a contest to find an entertaining, memorable, and persuasive Macromedia Flash piece that can pierce the Republicans' spin. (A Flash is a kind of animation, game, slide show, or program that can be easily viewed on the Internet.) We believe that when we put our heads together, our creativity and authenticity can beat high-priced PR any day of the week.

During the election, MoveOn Voter Fund's Bush in 30 Seconds contest asked MoveOn members to make political ads about the real George W. Bush. Over a thousand people across the country submitted ads, and political media expert Kathleen Hall Jamieson said the winning ad, Child's Pay, may rank as "the ad that has achieved the most air time with the least dollars expended of any ad in the history of the republic."1

Now we're announcing Bush in 30 Years, a contest to find the best online Flash animation, game, or application exposing Bush's real plan for the retirees of the next generation. Joining us in this effort is a great panel of celebrity judges -- actor John Cusack, comedian and radio host Al Franken, columnist Arianna Huffington, filmmaker Richard Linklater, and animator Aaron McGruder. MoveOn members will pick 10 finalists, and the judges will decide on a winner. We'll run the winning Flash on major news and youth websites. And to sweeten the deal, we'll give the winner a brand new Apple PowerBook.

Interested in making a Flash piece for Bush in 30 Years? Learn all about the contest at:

http://www.bushin30years.org/

And please send this message on to folks you know who might want to participate.

Making a Flash is relatively easy and it allows for a whole range of possibilities -- from animations to games to interactive calculators showing the benefits we'd each lose. Of course, there are lots of other creative approaches we haven't thought of -- that's why we're sponsoring this contest. This is your chance to do something totally original that will shatter the myth of Bush's Social Security scam once and for all. Even if this isn't your thing, you probably know someone who would love to participate.

Flash is a perfect medium to cut to the heart of this struggle between the Republicans and the retirement working Americans deserve. And it's a great way to reach the young voters and students Republicans are desperate to convince, but who have the most to lose from Bush's plan.

The Republicans are counting on scare tactics, half truths, and outright lies to convince Americans privatization is our only choice. But behind all the deception, the reality is clear: the Republicans want to hand over our Social Security to their buddies on Wall Street, who stand to make millions off the deal. To pay for it all, they'll cut benefits for future retirees and add to our soaring national debt.

Social Security's been in the news a lot lately, but the Republicans and their corporate allies are just getting started. This is our best shot at breaking through the spin before they inundate Americans with false claims.

Of course, this contest won't be enough to stop the Republicans all by itself. We'll all need to gather petition signatures, call Congress, donate to run ads, contact the media, and more to counter the Republican juggernaut. But using our creativity to reach out to millions of young voters already targeted by Bush's spin is a crucial first step.

If you're interested, you can find out all about Bush in 30 Years at:

http://www.bushin30years.org/

Be creative, have a great time, and good luck!

Sincerely,

Bush's plan to stack the courts begins today

As we write this, the Senate is debating the nomination of mining and cattle industry lobbyist William Myers III for a lifetime appointment to the Circuit Court of Appeals -- the second highest court in the land. Myers is the first of 20 nominees Bush has re-submitted in his second term. All 20 repeat nominees were rejected last term by Senate Democrats (as compared to 204 judges they accepted) because these nominees consistently sided with corporate special interests over the rights of ordinary Americans.

The Senate has the power to approve or reject judicial nominations because judges -- above all else -- must be trusted by Americans on all sides to rule fairly. So why does Bush refuse to send new nominees both parties can agree on? Because while his presidency will be over in 4 years, the judges he appoints will be on the bench for the rest of their lives. This is Bush's big push to lock in his hard right, corporate-friendly ideology for decades to come -- and that is exactly why we must not back down now.

The fight begins today. The Myers vote is a key test -- and may well determine whether Bush can stack the judiciary, all the way up to the Supreme Court, with a steady stream of hard right, pro-corporate judges. It's crucial that our Senators know that we out here in America are counting on them to hold the line against all 20 of Bush's rejected, partisan judges.

Please sign today:

http://www.moveonpac.org/judges/

We will deliver your comments to your Senators before the crucial votes on these 20 judicial nominees.

Here's a brief summary of just the first three of the 20 partisan judges re-nominated by President Bush.

William Myers III has never been a judge and spent most of his career as a lobbyist for the cattle and mining industry.[1] He has written that all habitat conservation laws are unconstitutional because they interfere with potential profit.[2] In 2001, Bush appointed him as the chief lawyer for the Department of the Interior. In that role he continued as a champion of corporate interests, setting his agenda in meetings with former employers he promised not to speak with, and even illegally giving away sacred Native American land to be strip mined.[3]

Terrence Boyle was a legal aide to Jesse Helms. As a judge, his signature decisions have attempted to circumvent federal laws barring employment discrimination by race, gender, and disability.[4] His rulings have been overturned a staggering 120 times by the conservative 4th District Court of Appeals, either due to gross errors in judgment or simple incompetence.[5]

William Pryor Jr. served as Attorney General of Alabama, where he took money from Phillip Morris, fought against the anti-tobacco lawsuit until it was almost over, and cost the people of Alabama billions in settlement money for their healthcare system as a result.[6] He called Roe v. Wade "the worst abomination of constitutional law in our history," and has consistently argued against the federal protections for the civil rights of minorities, lesbian and gay couples, women, and the disabled.[7]

If we falter now, then decades down the road dozens of judges like this will still be ruling in favor of unchecked corporate greed and against the basic principles of accountability and fairness.

The Bush Administration is prepared to stop at nothing to smash Democratic resistance and stack the courts. As President of the Senate, Dick Cheney has even threatened to push these 20 through by using a parliamentary trick so abusive even he calls it the "nuclear option." If they can get away with it, the "nuclear option" would eliminate the right to filibuster -- a rule that has allowed 40 or more Senators to keep extremists from all sides off the courts for centuries.

If that happens, when Supreme Court vacancies begin to open up in a few months there will be no motivation for Bush to nominate justices acceptable to both parties, and no ability for Democrats to oppose even the most dangerous extremists.

We must draw the line here, by stopping Bush's 20 repeat nominees. They were rejected once -- they can and must be rejected again.

Please sign the petition today:

Bush Plans Further Cuts in Forest Protections

"He who is willing to sacrifice freedom for safety deserves neither freedom nor safety." - Ben Franklin

Next Monday marks the final day for public comment on a proposed new Bush Administration rule that will restrict public input and environmental review of forest management plans under the National Forest Management Act (NFMA). It will also rescind wildlife protections that were established decades ago under President Reagan.

Under the Bush Administration's proposed forest plan rules, it would no longer be necessary to complete an environmental impact statement, a basic requirement of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

This is not the first move by the Bush Administration to reduce the role of NEPA in forest policy. Its "Healthy Forest Initiative" eliminated nearly all environmental reviews for logging in the public's forests. [1]

Environmental impact statements ensure that forest decisions are based on the best available science. By removing this step, an important tool for forest managers to evaluate plans for potential harm to water, wildlife, old-growth and roadless areas is eliminated.

Wildlife viability requirements will also be negated, meaning that viable levels of native fish and wildlife populations will no longer need to be maintained. The Forest Service will also be relieved of duties to monitor wildlife populations. Instead, forest plans need only a "framework to provide the characteristics of ecosystem diversity in the plan area." [2] Disclosure, and even studying, cumulative impacts of management activities across the national forests will be unnecessary under the new regulations.

The proposed changes also ignore the role of science in the decision-making process. Under the new rules, agency officials are actually given the discretion to ignore scientific evidence and recommendations. [3]

Environmentalists point out that lack of reliable public information regarding environmental consequences of forest plans -- combined with increased discretionary power over the level of scientific involvement in forest planning -- will mean an open door for corporate incursions into timber, mining and oil resources in our nation's forests.

"This is yet another example of the Bush administration putting industry profits ahead of the interests of Americans," Randi Spivak, executive director of the American Lands Alliance, told BushGreenwatch. "The new rules reject science and demonstrate blatant disregard for public input. Americans care deeply about the places where they hike, fish and relax, and want to protect these places for future generations. With Bush¹s allegiance to the timber, oil and gas industries, what is now a forest heritage could soon be history."

WASHINGTON, DC. or Iraq . . . It's a US thing

According to the latest figures, there have been 88 hostile fire

deaths caused by firearms since the beginning of hostilities in Iraq.

The remainder of coalition deaths have been due to explosives or

accidents.

What does this mean? If you consider that there have been an average

of 160,000 troops in theater during the last 22 months, that gives a

firearm death rate of 55 per 100,000.

The rate in DC is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are more

likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some

of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

The conclusion? We should immediately pull out of WASHINGTON, DC.
