Policy

"One useless man is called a disgrace; two useless men are called a law firm; and three or more useless men are a congress" John Adams

"

Start with a cage containing five apes.

In the cage, hang a banana on a string and put stairs under it. Before long, an ape will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the Banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the apes with cold water. After a while, another ape makes
an attempt with the same result - all the apes are sprayed with cold water.

This continues thru several more attempts.

Pretty soon, when another ape tries to climb the stairs, the other apes
will try to prevent it. Now, Turn off the cold water. Remove one ape
from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new ape sees the banana and
wants to climb the stairs. To his horror, all of the other apes attack
him.
After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the
stairs, he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five apes and replace it with a new one.
The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer
takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm. Again, replace a third
original ape with a new one. The new one makes it to the stairs and is
attacked as well. Two of the four apes that beat him have no idea why
they were not permitted to climb the stairs, or why they are participating in
the beating of the newest ape.

After replacing the fourth and fifth original apes,
all the apes which have been sprayed with cold water have been replaced.
Nevertheless, no ape ever again approaches the stairs. Why not? Because
that's the way it's always been around here.

And that's how policy begins....

Think about it. It is happening.

What to do on Memorial Day weekend for yourself and your family's wellbeing - Redo of May 12 Entery

"One useless man is called a disgrace; two useless men are called a law firm; and three or more useless men are a congress" John Adams

On Memorial Day weekend, Hollywood is releasing a summer blockbuster movie that's making the Bush administration very nervous. In fact, they'd rather you didn't see it at all.

Why? Because it's a disaster movie about global warming.

While "The Day After Tomorrow" is more science fiction than science fact, everyone will be talking about it -- and asking "Could it really happen?" This is an unprecedented opportunity to talk to millions of Americans about the real dangers of global warming and expose President Bush's foot-dragging on the issue.

It's also a fun movie to see with friends over the holiday weekend.

So here's the plan: On Memorial Day weekend, grab a few friends and go see "The Day After Tomorrow" -- the movie the White House doesn't want you to see. At the theater, meet up with other MoveOn members to give out flyers that explain, in everyday language, what causes global warming, how Bush's environmental policies could lead us into a real-life climate crisis, and what we can do together to meet this challenge.

Please also sign our petition calling on Bush and Congress to prevent a climate crisis, at:

http://www.moveon.org/climatecrisis/

Maybe you've already seen the trailer for "The Day After Tomorrow": tornadoes whip through Los Angeles and Manhattan is frozen over as global warming triggers an Ice Age across North America.

Nearly 20 million Americans are expected to see this movie, with as many as 7 or 8 million over Memorial Day weekend alone. Because the movie capitalizes on our real-life concerns over climate change, audiences are likely to walk out of the theater asking themselves: "Could it really happen?" We'll be there to answer that question with our flyers.

The right wing has already cranked up its PR machine to discredit the movie as "fright flick" propaganda cooked up by climate change conspiracy theorists. Never mind that they're relying on stone-age science, or that they're light-years behind the curve on the public's acceptance of global warming as a real environmental threat.

The news media are already buzzing about our plans. Yesterday, we held a press conference to officially launch the campaign, and stories have already appeared in the Associated Press, the New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times.

We can't afford to wait until the day after tomorrow to address the climate crisis. We hope you'll be part of this fun summer campaign to elevate global warming from movie-house thrill-ride to White House priority.

P.S.: You can see the movie trailer at:

Remember back on May 5 the story on how Disney won't let the US see "Fahrenheit 9/11" A UPDATE

Michael Moore Film Nears Release in US (it been seen now almost all over the world)as Disney Sells. What you did or didn't do came CHANGE.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Michael Moore's controversial documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" moved a step closer to U.S. theaters on Friday as Miramax film studio founders Harvey and Bob Weinstein personally bought rights to the picture from Walt Disney Co. THANKS GUYS!

Miramax had funded the film but Disney, which owns the art-house studio, had declined to distribute the movie, saying the documentary and its criticism of President Bush's war on Iraq were too politically charged.

By clinching a deal now, the movie could still be on track to get into theaters by the middle of this summer, despite a crowded field of U.S. releases, distributors have said.

That fast-track release would capitalize on the recent surge of interest in the film and give Moore a chance to influence the November presidential election with his unflattering portrait of Bush.

The Weinsteins would probably turn to a third-party distributor to handle the film, and talks with such companies already were under way while the brothers negotiated with Disney, one distributor said.

Moore sparked interest in the film in early May by saying Disney had backed down from distributing the documentary out of fear of political repercussions.

Disney hotly denied that charge and in turn accused the director of the anti-gun documentary "Bowling for Columbine" of staging a publicity stunt to promote his film.

"Fahrenheit 9/11" won this month the Palme d'Or, the highest award of France's Cannes film festival, with its portrayal of families affected by the war and U.S. government policies in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks that felled the World Trade Center.

It is also expected to meet or beat the box-office performance of "Columbine," which set a record for a U.S. documentary with $21.6 million in ticket sales.

Talks are already under way between the Weinsteins and U.S. distributors, with top contenders seen including Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., Focus Features, a unit of General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal., and privately held Newmarket Films. Smaller ThinkFilm is also in the running for the U.S. rights and deals have already been made for releases outside the United States.

Disney said that it could still profit if the film did well but that it would donate any profit to charity. It did not name the charity.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but a person familiar with it said that the charity component assured that neither Disney nor the Weinsteins would do better under the deal than if Disney had distributed it.

We now will be able to see this peace of information too. THANKS AGAIN GUYS. YOU'RE true PATRIOTS. Can ya'll believe would going on in this country today. The Corp. world was going to deny us our freedom to information based on who owned who. For the orginal story go back to May 5 to read it.

Nader Campaign Eligible for Matching Funds!

The Nader for President 2004 campaign has just qualified for matching funds! This means that all eligible gifts may be DOUBLED by federal funds.

We need to raise cash before the end of the month to roll into June with a healthy budget. We just spent more than $100,000 on our field team and road trippers for Ralph to turn in 80,000 signatures to get Ralph on the ballot there. We're also going to court over Texas ballot access laws which unfairly – and unconstitutionally – discriminate against Independent candidates. Next we focus on the other early deadline states: Arizona, Illinois and Indiana, as we hire field coordinators around the country. Burdensome and obstructive ballot access laws cost big bucks. We can only get on the ballot with your support.

The campaign is also ordering merchandise! Buttons, bumper stickers, hats and other items so that we can spread the word. But we need cash now to get these to the warehouse and available to you in June! Please make a donation today and check out our newly redesigned homepage at votenader.org.

We are on a roll! Let’s continue to build on the momentum created by the only candidate with a strategy for waging peace. We need to step up the pace and head into June with a Peace Chest filled with your support.

Rush limbaugh, love him or loath him, he nailed this one. Right?

"One useless man is called a disgrace; two useless men are called a law firm; and three or more useless men are a congress" John Adams

I think the vast differences in compensation between victims
of the September 11 casualty and those who die serving the country in Uniform are profound. No one is really talking about it either, because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September 11.

Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country.

If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million
If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier
killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death
benefit, half of which is taxable. Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average
of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not
enough. Their deaths were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families know the dangers.

We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims
from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization
asking for the same deal that the September 11 families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well.

You see where this is going, don't you?
Folks, this is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad. Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing. Make sense?

However, our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves a raise,
and many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month, and most are now equal to being millionaires plus.
They also do not receive Social Security on retirement because
they didn't have to pay into the system.

If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7, you may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed you in harm's way receive a pension of $15,000 per month. I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting.

"When do we finally do something about this?"
If this doesn't seem fair to you, it is time to forward this to as
many people as you can.

If your interested there is more.......................
This must be a campaign issue in 2004. Keep it going.

Gore Speaks on Bush's Policy of Domination, and get a copy as well

Yesterday, we sponsored a powerful speech by former Vice President Al Gore on the fallout from the war in Iraq. In the speech, Mr. Gore took on the Bush administration, arguing that the "abuse of the prisoners at Abu Ghraib flowed directly from the abuse of the truth that characterized the Administration's march to war and the abuse of the trust that had been placed in President Bush by the American people in the aftermath of September 11th." To sustained applause, he then called for the architects of the Bush foreign policy – Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice, George Tenet, Paul Wolfowitz, and others -- to resign, arguing that "the current team is making things worse with each passing day."

You can read a full transcript of the speech and watch a great five-minute video of the highlights at:
http://www.moveonpac.org/gore/

We're also offering a DVD of the speech, which will be sent out in four to six weeks, for a $5 contribution. To order a DVD now, go to:
http://www.moveonpac.org/gore/dvd/?id=2897-3646104-Z2ZWCAcBUvCvoajN2kjXZw

Mr. Gore began the speech by focusing on the policy of domination which pervades the Bush Administration:

"An American policy of dominance is as repugnant to the rest of the world as the ugly dominance of the helpless, naked Iraqi prisoners has been to the American people. Dominance is as dominance does."
"Dominance is not really a strategic policy or political philosophy at all. It is a seductive illusion that tempts the powerful to satiate their hunger for more power still by striking a Faustian bargain. And as always happens -- sooner or later -- to those who shake hands with the devil, they find out too late that what they have given up in the bargain is their soul."

This policy, he explained, is making us less safe as a country:

"The unpleasant truth is that President Bush's utter incompetence has made the world a far more dangerous place and dramatically increased the threat of terrorism against the United States. Just yesterday, the International Institute of Strategic Studies reported that the Iraq conflict " has arguable focused the energies and resources of Al Qaeda and its followers while diluting those of the global counterterrorism coalition." The ISS said that in the wake of the war in Iraq Al Qaeda now has more than 18,000 potential terrorists scattered around the world and the war in Iraq is swelling its ranks."
To sustained applause, he then called for the resignation of the Bush foreign policy team:

"One of the strengths of democracy is the ability of the people to regularly demand changes in leadership and to fire a failing leader and hire a new one with the promise of hopeful change. That is the real solution to America's quagmire in Iraq. But, I am keenly aware that we have seven months and twenty five days remaining in this president's current term of office and that represents a time of dangerous vulnerability for our country because of the demonstrated incompetence and recklessness of the current administration."
"It is therefore essential that even as we focus on the fateful choice, the voters must make this November that we simultaneously search for ways to sharply reduce the extraordinary danger that we face with the current leadership team in place. It is for that reason that I am calling today for Republicans as well as Democrats to join me in asking for the immediate resignations of those immediately below George Bush and Dick Cheney who are most responsible for creating the catastrophe that we are facing in Iraq."

"We desperately need a national security team with at least minimal competence because the current team is making things worse with each passing day. They are endangering the lives of our soldiers, and sharply increasing the danger faced by American citizens everywhere in the world, including here at home. They are enraging hundreds of millions of people and embittering an entire generation of anti-Americans whose rage is already near the boiling point."

"We simply cannot afford to further increase the risk to our country with more blunders by this team. Donald Rumsfeld, as the chief architect of the war plan, should resign today. His deputies Paul Wolfowitz, Douglas Feith and his intelligence chief Stephen Cambone should also resign. The nation is especially at risk every single day that Rumsfeld remains as Secretary of Defense. Condoleezza Rice, who has badly mishandled the coordination of national security policy, should also resign immediately."

And, at the end, he called for us to hold Bush accountable in November:

"I want to speak on behalf of those Americans who feel that President Bush has betrayed our nation's trust, those who are horrified at what has been done in our name, and all those who want the rest of the world to know that we Americans see the abuses that occurred in the prisons of Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo and secret locations as yet undisclosed as completely out of keeping with the character and basic nature of the American people and at odds with the principles on which America stands."
"I believe we have a duty to hold President Bush accountable -- and I believe we will. As Lincoln said at our time of greatest trial, 'We -- even we here -- hold the power, and bear the responsibility.'"

BUSH CUTS CHILDREN'S HEALTH WHILE REWARDING HMO'S

During today's trip to Tennessee [1], President
Bush will hold a photo-op at
a children's hospital and then attend a
$2,000-per-person fundraiser at the
home of a top health insurance executive [2]. The
two events provide a
perfect display of how the President has misled
America on health care
policy: at the same time that he has tried to slash
funding for children's
hospitals, his budget lavishes billions of dollars
on health insurance
companies who fund his campaign.

During today's first event, the President is
expected to praise children's
hospitals. However, his budget this year proposes
to freeze funding for
grants to these hospitals, preventing their federal
grants from keeping pace
with inflation [3]. He also proposes a $94 million
cut to the Community
Access Program [4] - effectively eliminating
another program that provides
grants to children's hospitals in need. And he is
trying to slash $158
million (68%) from training grants for specialties
that include pediatrics
[5]. These efforts are consistent with his past
policies: last year, the
President proposed cutting $86 million (30%) from
grants to children's
hospitals [6]. And in 2002, he proposed to cut $35
million (14%) from grants
for children's hospitals to train pediatricians
[7].

After his photo-op at the children's hospital, the
President will attend a
fundraiser at the home of Clay Jackson [8], an
executive [9] at a health
insurance company called BB&T [10]. Unlike the
children's hospitals whose
budgets have been cut, insurance executives like
Jackson have a lot to thank
the President for. For instance, the President
crafted a Medicare bill that
gives health insurance companies a new $130 billion
subsidy [11], while
forcing many seniors off traditional Medicare and
into HMOs [12]. The
President has also done nothing to address the
skyrocketing costs of health
care, sitting by last year as HMOs raised premiums
by 13% [13] and raked in
an extra $6.7 billion from Americans [14].

BUSH CONTINUES MISLEADING ON PRISON ABUSE SCANDAL

In his speech before the U.S. Army War College this
week, President Bush
again tried to absolve himself and his
Administration from any
responsibility for the atrocities at Abu Ghraib
prison. He said the abuse
was "disgraceful conduct by a few American troops
who dishonored our country
and disregarded our values" [1]. But new reports
show that the
Administration - and President Bush himself -
approved key documents that
originally opened the door to the abuse.

Since the scandal broke, the Administration has
said that, in Iraq, it
always insisted on following the Geneva Conventions
on humane treatment for
prisoners. However, in a letter to the Red Cross
dated December 24, 2003,
the Bush Administration asserted that detainees in
Iraq "were not entitled
to the full protections of the Geneva Convention"
[2] This disregard for
internationally-recognized human rights regulations
was consistent with a
January 2002 directive by the White House labeling
the Geneva Conventions
"quaint" and "obsolete" [3]. It is also consistent
with a Newsweek report
showing that "President Bush, along with Defense
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld
and Attorney General John Ashcroft signed off on a
secret system of
detention and interrogation that opened the door to
such methods" of abuse
and torture as documented at Abu Ghraib [4]. Those
secret orders were
designed "to sidestep the historical safeguards of
the Geneva Conventions."

Instead of acknowledging these documents and
upholding his pledge to "usher
in an era of personal responsibility," [5] the Bush
Administration is now
assaulting those who brought the story to light.
Sgt. Samuel Provance told
the Associated Press he has "been disciplined by
the military and stripped
of his security clearance" after he publicly
refuted the President's claims
that the abuse was only the work of a few soldiers
[6]. Meanwhile, Secretary
of Defense Donald Rumsfeld banned "digital cameras,
camcorders and
cellphones with cameras" from all military
installations in Iraq [7]. And,
as MSNBC reports, the whole Administration is
"lashing out at American
journalists, adding their official voices to the
chorus of talk radio,
conservative Web site and newspaper columnists" who
claim the media's
coverage of the scandal and Iraq in general "is
undermining support for the
war" [8].

Internet sex scandal rocks US Congress, Washington establishment

Your tax dollars at waste, The hold store.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Washington loves nothing as much as a summer sex scandal, and the season is off to an early start this year, as a congressional aide was sacked after posting her lovemaking exploits on the Internet.

Jessica Cutler, 24 -- who has become better known in Washington circles by her nom de plume, "Washingtonienne" -- was dismissed last week from her job as an entry-level aide to Republican Senator Mike DeWine.

Her jauntily written Internet diary includes lurid descriptions of sexual encounters on Capitol Hill and other venues in official Washington -- some allegedly involving prominent, but unnamed, paramours.

Her blog.

BUSH IGNORES SICK 9/11 FIREFIGHTERS & COPS

Over the last month, President Bush has repeatedly
recounted how he was
inspired by "the courage of the firefighters and
the police" [1] in the
aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. He
recounted how, when
standing atop a pile of rubble at Ground Zero, he
was told by a firefighter,
"Don't let me down" [2]. But more than two years
later, he continues to
ignore the needs of firefighters and police
officers who are now suffering
adverse health effects from their rescue efforts at
Ground Zero. The
situation has reached a head: yesterday, 1,700 cops
and firefighters were
forced to sue in court for the medical help they
desperately need [3].

While the President's very first campaign
commercial used photos of coffin
draped corpses [4] being pulled from the rubble,
the White House has sought
to hide evidence that Ground Zero firefighters and
cops were exposed to
hazardous toxins. Specifically, the White House
Council on Environmental
Quality (CEQ) intervened to doctor EPA press
releases [5] that were supposed
to warn the public about toxins near Ground Zero.
The press releases were
modified to claim that the air was safe - despite
the fact that there was
not adequate scientific evidence to substantiate
that claim. The CEQ was
headed by James Connaughton, a former asbestos
industry lawyer who
represented companies in toxic pollution cases [6].

When Ground Zero firefighters and cops began
getting sick, the White House
tried to block $90 million in funding [7] for
medical treatment. When
Congress forced the Administration to accept the
$90 million, the
Administration then delayed the money [8] and
threatened to shut down the
health-screening program. Even today, the New York
Police Department has
been denied much needed health grants [9].

Free bumper Stikers

One of President Bush's most effective tactics has been to portray those of us who oppose his policies as a small minority of the American public. But poll after poll shows that a large and increasing majority of American citizens disagree with his policies and don't like the direction he's leading our country in. Bush's strategy is to keep us from recognizing just how many of us there are.

That's why we're launching a campaign to demonstrate how popular opposition to George Bush really is. To participate, all you need to do is request a free bumper sticker and stick it on your car or in some other highly visible place. We're willing to send one bumper sticker for free to anyone who wants one – no cost whatsoever, no strings attached. We're also offering 10-packs and 500-packs for a small contribution.

To get a sticker for free, and to order larger quantities of the stickers, just go to:

http://www.moveonpac.org/stickers/?id=2878-3646104-bWZd_AGhc76Auv._xcqFSg

Many of us have felt isolated in the last four years. We've been told that dissent is unpatriotic, that our views are out of whack with the mainstream. By displaying a bumper sticker, you'll help reverse that trend – emboldening other progressives in your community to speak out and demonstrating how many patriotic Americans are working to fire President Bush. Think of it as a grassroots advertising campaign – a way to "brand" the movement to take our country back.

The stickers we're offering are high-quality vinyl two-color stickers. Typically, stickers like these sell for a couple of dollars a piece. But if a small percentage of those who order a free sticker pitch in for others, we can distribute them on an ongoing basis. With your help, we can make sure that they’re seen in hundreds of thousands of places across the U.S. in the next few weeks.

Get your free sticker (or 10- and 500-packs for a small contribution) at:

The NationalTrust.org lists the state of Vermont on it's 2004 Most Endangered for the SECOND time

AND IF YOU DON'T THINK THIS IS POLITICAL, THINK AGAIN! You've seem what a Wal-Mart store can do to SMALL TOWN AMERICA, DON'T act here and now and find out what Wal-Mart well do to SMALL STATE AMERICA.
www.nationaltrust.org/Vermont
This link is to the Vermont page of the list of the 11 most endangered places of US Historic Places.

A HOLD STATE? YES! WHY? "BIG BOX STORES", BUT MOSTLY WAL-MART

With historic villages and downtowns,

working farms, winding back roads,
forest-wrapped lakes, spectacular
mountain vistas and a strong sense
of community, Vermont has a special
magic that led National Geographic
Traveler magazine to name the state
one of "the World's Greatest Destinations."
Yet in recent years, this small slice of
America has come under tremendous pressure
from the onslaught of big-box retail
development. The seriousness of this threat
led the National Trust to name the state to
its list of America’s 11 Most Endangered
Historic Places in 1993. Back then,
Vermont was the only state without a Wal-Mart.
Today it has four – and it now faces an invasion
of behemoth stores that could destroy much of
what makes Vermont Vermont.

America, becoming the "STRIP MALL" of the world...
