White House Press Secretary Lashes Out at Reporter: “There’s a Difference Between Trashy Rumors and Journalism”

Scott McClellan finally lost it Friday, according to White House reporters. He doesn’t see it that way.

The White House press secretary had kept his cool all week as reporters pounced on him about President George Bush’s 1970s service in the National Guard. Facing perhaps his toughest week as press secretary, McClellan got testy Tuesday under questioning by CBS correspondent John Roberts during the televised briefing. He then blew up at old pro Helen Thomas during the private “gaggle” for reporters on Friday.

Thomas had gotten a tip that Bush might have been absent from duty in Alabama because he was performing court-ordered community service in Texas in 1972. She asked McClellan if that was accurate.

According to reporters in the press room, McClellan got red-faced and became so angry, it looked to some as if he were ready to pounce. He characterized the question as coming from “gutter politics.”

8 yrs. of Partial-birth testimony

Privacy will be protected
After eight years of testimony from respected medical professionals, a bipartisan majority in Congress found that partial-birth abortion is a gruesome and inhumane procedure that never is medically necessary. Before President Bush signed the bill into law, lawsuits already were filed by the abortion-rights lobby and doctors who perform this heinous procedure.

Bush AD pulled, MoveOn says

On Friday, the 13th, CBS pulled the BUSH ad, stating that it had violated their policy. It's a big win, and a powerful blow to the Bush Administration's campaign to cover up its Medicare sellout. After CBS rejected our Voter Fund's Super Bowl ad, we learned that the White House was being allowed to air an advocacy ad about Medicare. We told you about it, and in just a few days over 50,000 MoveOn members called and emailed to complain. YOU made CBS back off and stand by their earlier claim. It's a big win, and a powerful blow to the Bush Administration's.

This tidal wave of engagement and activism isn't exclusive to MoveOn, of course. Every leader of every organization we run into sees the same thing. Across the country, from labor unions like the SEIU to Greenpeace to the ACLU, people are standing up and getting active. President Bush told us he was a uniter, and he was right: he's uniting people across America to fight back for our country.

MoveOn is now over two million people strong in the United States. That's a huge number: the organization we've built together is bigger than the Christian Coalition at its peak. To put it another way, one in every 146 Americans is now a MoveOn member. And we're still growing fast.

Mission Statement

The Natural Resources Defense Council's purpose is to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on which all life depends.

This administration, in catering to industries that put America's health and natural heritage at risk, threatens to do more damage to our environmental protections than any other in U.S. history. Here is NRDC's account of what the Bush administration has done and is doing on environmental matters.

The Rest of the Story on Bush's Record and how taking Carbon Dioxide off the list of 4 lets him say he has made a 25% increase in getting us clearer Air.

Comments on my Friday post entitled "What is an oxymoron?"

I never thought about the Bible in courtrooms thing. Why didn't what's her face, Madeline Murphy Bitch[?], that got prayer out of schools get the Bible out of the courts? Then churches can pay property taxes like everyone else. Church weddings wouldn't be recognized as civil unions, as is the case in Monaco and many other countries, and make everyone get married in their church, if they so choose, after thier CIVIL UNION ceremony. Then same sex CIVIL UNIONS wouldn't be an issue because we would have true separation of church and state and God wouldn't be involved. Those right wing judgmental Bible thumpers could then go to church and thump that Bible all they want, but shut the phuque up about what they think God wants for the rest of us in public buildings and laws of the land. Finally, the phase, "Judge not lest ye be judged", could mean something.

In 20 years same sex marriage won't any big deal. It will join freeing the slaves and women getting the vote as just another political circus that never should have been an issue in the first place. God help those judgmental hypocrites when they get to the Pearly Gates and have to explain why they did all the crap they did in His name. God is about LOVE and they are not, but HATE is good politics.

I'll shut up now. Thank you for letting me vent.
