Eat Lower-Mercury Fish, U.S. Tells Women, Children, your killing yourselfs people again

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish should be off the menu for pregnant women, nursing mothers, children and women who may become pregnant because they contain too much mercury, the U.S. government said on Friday.

The last paragraph:

Trade groups representing the food industry said the new advisory showed the benefits of fish as well as how to limit exposure to mercury. The U.S. Tuna Foundation described tuna as "nature's healthy fast food," low in fat and high in nutrients.

The hole story

So, now that we have NOT done as the scientist told us to do years ago, because our reps. in Washington DC sold us out to BIG business we now get advice that tell us not to eat some fish. I've got news, if your 8 years old and you live 50 years, as I have, you can look forward to this in your news when you hit 58. "Don't eat any fish or you will die." Or maybe sooner. Get involved before you lets someone else decide your death and when your dying some 50 year later you want be able to remember the Reps. name and they count on that. I can't remember who was in office that let the mercury keep on flowing, but you can bet that letting it flow was a benefit to BIG business than as now. The same BIG busines that is leaving the US with the jobs you used have. You cost too much you know. So maybe they are doing us a BIG favor soon we won't be able to buy the fish that would kill us. They're taking the job so will won't die of mercury. Arn't they wonderful! Are you getting this? I lived it, I know what was and now what is. Believe me. I have nothing to make for myself in this. Damn this shit makes me MAD. And you'll make me MAD as well if you sit around like I did and let someone you don't even know KILL you after you been told of whats going on by some one who is what they call "dead man walking".

Carbon Dioxide Reported at Record Levels, your killing yourselfs people

MAUNA LOA OBSERVATORY, Hawaii - Carbon dioxide, the gas largely blamed for global warming, has reached record-high levels in the atmosphere after growing at an accelerated pace in the past year, say scientists monitoring the sky from this 2-mile-high station atop a Hawaiian volcano.

OK, that the first paragraph, now there's the last paragraph:

The United States, the world's biggest carbon dioxide emitter, signed the agreement but did not ratify it, and the Bush administration has since withdrawn U.S. support, calling instead for voluntary emission reductions by U.S. industry and more scientific research into climate change.

These people most not know what they're talking about. Don't they know that Pres. Bush took carbon dioxide off the list of pollutants! That how he and his administration can say that they have reduced pollutants by 25%. There are now only 3 of the 4 left on the list.

The full story, and at the bottom of the story read the "messages" from other people and what they have to say about the US and the problem. You won't like it but read it anyway...

Political Humor

Little David was in his 5th grade class when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up fireman, policeman, salesman, doctor, lawyer, etc.

David was being uncharacteristically quiet, so the teacher asked him about his father. "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer is really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy and make love with him for money."

The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some exercises and took little David aside to ask him, "Is that really true about your father?"

"No," said David, "He works for the Kerry campaign, but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids."

This Friday marks the first anniversary of the

invasion of Iraq, and the Bush administration and
Republicans in Congress are eager to congratulate
themselves on a job well done. Donald Rumsfeld,
Condoleezza Rice and other Bush administration officials
will be all over the radio and TV this week to
convince us we're better off as a result of the war.

But the casualties continue to rise, and families
with loved ones serving in Iraq are wondering when
they'll see their children, their spouses, and their
parents return home safely.

Help us make sure the media remember the incredible
sacrifices of military families by taking 15
minutes to write a letter to the editor of your local
paper this week.

With this simple step, we can honor our troops and
their families, and we can also help make sure our
society remembers the enormous price of war, so
it's never again used as anything other than a last
resort.

An Outside Takeover of the Sierra Club

The Sierra Club is uniquely built on volunteer participation, but our welcoming culture of democratic involvement isn't guaranteed. Now our organization is threatened by the ambitions of outside interests promoting candidates for our Board of Directors -- candidates with no experience in the Sierra Club, who view our organization as a vehicle for their narrow agendas. Politics is everywhere. And unfair is unfair.

Poland 'Misled' on Iraq, Says Their President

By MONIKA SCISLOWSKA, Associated Press Writer

WARSAW, Poland - Poland, which has about 2,400 troops in Iraq and was a strong supporter of the U.S.-led invasion, was "misled" about the threat from Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction, its president said Thursday.

The remarks by President Aleksander Kwasniewski to a small group of European reporters were his first hint of criticism about war in Iraq.

Earlier in the day, Kwasniewski said Poland may start withdrawing its troops from Iraq early next year, months earlier than the previously stated date of mid-2005.

"Naturally, one may protest the reasons for the war action in Iraq. I personally think that today, Iraq without Saddam Hussein is a truly better Iraq than with Saddam Hussein," Kwasniewski told the European reporters.

"But naturally I also feel uncomfortable due to the fact that we were misled with the information on weapons of mass destruction," he said, according to a transcript released by the presidential press office.

Those comments came days after Spain's new government, taking power in the wake of the Madrid bombings with their apparent link to Islamic extremists, said it would pull its troops from Iraq by June 30 unless the United Nations (news - web sites) takes over.

"Everything suggests that pullout from Iraq may be possible after the stabilization mission is crowned with success and, in my assessment soon, it may be the start of 2005," Kwasniewski told RMF-FM radio.

Poland commands a 9,500-strong multinational force in south-central Iraq that includes the Spaniards.

But he noted that Iraq now has an interim constitution and said it should soon have an interim government that will allow current forces to be replaced by peacekeepers.

He insisted, however, that Poland was staying the course in Iraq and would not bow to terror.

"We are facing the same threat as Spain," Kwasniewski said, but he stressed that "terrorism must be combatted, also with force."

Rumsfeld -- caught on camera

A year ago today, the Bush Administration was
making its final push toward war in Iraq. We know now
that much of what we were told about the threat that
Iraq posed was untrue. And rather than own up to
their distortion of the facts, Bush administration
officials are denying they ever said such things.

But this Sunday, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld
got caught blatantly contradicting his past
statements, and we have the video clip. You can check it
out at:

Lawmaker To Investigate Possible Gas Price Gouging. Have I heard this SOMETIME before?

Gas prices in California have been on the rise for the last few weeks. So, what's the real reason behind the hikes? And when will consumers see some relief?

The rapid rise in prices is prompting some politicians to pound on the pump problem, including Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California.

"They call it an anomaly. And I ask, when you find an anomaly, what do you do?" Boxer said.

Western States Petroleum Association spokesman Joe Sparano says he knows why prices have jumped.

"It's a combination of factors. First, crude oil prices have gone up dramatically. Since December, it's up 18 to 20 cents a gallon," Sparano said.

Other factors are supply and demand and California's cleaner gas, which costs more.

Sparano says the gas industry doesn't profit as much as consumers might think. He said they made about 6.3 percent last quarter. He says profits are shared by producers, refineries and sellers.

"It's very difficult to determine who, if anyone, is making profit as the prices go up," Sparano said.

As for the future, Sparano says he doesn't have enough information to make a prediction on gas prices.

"And even if I did, I wouldn't be foolhardy enough to do that. It depends on so many factors, as you've heard," Sparano said.

Like the stock market, Sparano says gas prices are almost impossible to predict.

Meanwhile, lawmakers plan to investigate possible gouging.

"Every time we shine the light of truth on this, we see the prices go down. I'm hoping at least that will happen," Boxer said.

I'm really not sure why I am bothering with this entery. I've heard all this every year for years in the past. There is always a reason but if you look back the prices go up .50 and come back down .35.
The prices never go back to where they were. They end up just a little higher. It's the old two steps up and one down.

California Lawmakers Announce Bills To Collect On California State Property

Two California lawmakers went on the offensive Thursday, pushing to pass a series of bills that they claim will add millions of dollars to state coffers to help fight budget problems.

Sen. Jim Battin, R-Palm Springs, and Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Salinas, say they have spent months researching what properties the state owns, including a building in Marin County that houses a massage parlor and an acre of golf course in the Oakland hills.

On Thursday, Battin and Denham launched their mission to identify property they say the state doesn't need, and to sell it to offset the budget crisis. They hope to net $1 billion a year.

"Some of them are million-dollar properties. Some are thousand-dollar properties. But, regardless, we've got huge opportunities from around the state," Denham said.

Caltrans says it needs the massage parlor building and surrounding properties to eventually widen Highway 101. But what about the golf course?

"We own 1.5 acres of a small public golf course in Oakland. And if all goes as planned, that land could become part of a park-and-ride lot," said Caltrans spokesman David Anderson.

"Sen. Denham and I met with Caltrans. And when we confronted them with the golf course and massage parlor, they were unaware. Since that time, they have decided to make it a park-and-ride lot, which I thought was rather interesting, since we've owned the property since the 1950s," Battin said.

The lawmakers also have their eye on property in the heart of Sacramento, which, they say, the state owns but gets nothing in return. They're talking about apartments run by the Capitol Area Development Authority, or CADA.

"It is time we end our business in apartments, and it's time we allow CADA to buy us out. We don't want to shut it down, but buy us out," Battin said.
